Juandah Campdraft & Event Complex
Client: Juandah Aggregation
Location: Wandoan, Qld
Value: $3.31M
Duration: August 2022 - June 2023
Project Overview
In 2022, Suffcon was approached by Juandah Aggregation to design and construct a national-scale campdraft and event complex. The goal was to create a premier facility capable of hosting major equestrian and cattle events on an annual basis.
Following a comprehensive review of various design options, a layout was selected that maximised the natural contours of the undulating terrain and embraced the rural backdrop of Western Queensland. The final design balanced form and function — delivering a high-quality venue that met national competition standards while retaining the character of its regional setting.
Construction Highlights
Construction began in late 2022, led by a small team of multi-skilled operators. Major earthworks were undertaken, including the cut and fill of over 40,000 bulk cubic metres to form embankments. To ensure optimal performance and rider safety, 1,000 tonnes of fine-grained, specialist sand were imported and meticulously spread to form the competition arena’s surface.
Beyond the arena, approximately 60,000 m² of surrounding land was transformed and landscaped to accommodate:
Custom-designed cattle yards
Commentary and judging boxes
Bar and catering facilities
Manicured spectator lawns for clear viewing and comfort
A Regional Showpiece
Since its completion in 2023, the facility has proudly hosted the annual Willinga at Juandah Plains Campdraft, attracting top-tier competitors from across the country. The event offers over $300,000 in prize money, including coveted trophy buckles and saddles, and delivers non-stop action from dawn to dusk.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Queensland’s rich brigalow belt, the Juandah complex has quickly established itself as a signature destination for national rural sporting events.
