Project Overview
Suffcon was engaged by Willinga Pastoral Co to collaborate with airport designers on the design and construction of a 1.2-kilometre bitumen-sealed airstrip, engineered to accommodate jet aircraft carrying up to 30 passengers.
With a strong focus on cost-efficiency and material performance, Suffcon’s expert team undertook extensive investigations to identify optimal pavement materials. Over several months, the team conducted material testing and assessments, ultimately selecting a high-quality basalt rock deposit located approximately 15 kilometres from the construction site.
Construction commenced in October 2023, with Suffcon responsible for fully resourcing and managing all aspects of airstrip delivery.
This project highlights Suffcon’s capability in complex, remote infrastructure delivery, combining engineering precision with efficient material sourcing and construction management.
